History Review

8/6/1945      The first atomic bomb (Little Boy) was dropped                      on Hiroshima with 90,000–166,000 killed.                                      In Nagasaki 60,000–80,000 killed 
                    Total: 150,000–246,000+ killed 

8/8/1945     The Indian congress prompted by Mahatma                                  Gandhi issued a call to the British to “quit India”                        at once. Churchill was very prejudiced against the                        Indians. The British arrested the leader and a riot                        broke out killing 1,000 people and 100,000 jailed.                          Prior to the war India & Hong Kong were British                        colonies.

8/9/1945       Nothing had been heard from Tokyo.
8/9/1945       The second Atomic bomb (Fat Man) destroys                                 Nagasaki. 

8/14/1945     The Emperor agreed to accept the Potsdam                                   Declaration.  Japan surrendered unconditionally                         ending WW II

8/30/1945      US Forces landed on Yokohama to begin the                                 occupation of Japan.

9/2/1945       General Mac Arthur and Admiral Nimitz were on                         the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay when Yokohama                           signed the surrender. 

9/2/1945       There was an Unconditional surrender of Japan on                       USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay with General Douglas                       MacArthur.  During the surrender ceremonies 
                      500 B-29,s and 1,500 carrier aircraft flew                                       overhead. This was the end of World War II.


12/31/1945    Official end of WW II. The Potsdam Conference was held at Cecilienhof,  home of Crown Prince     Wilhelm Hohenzollern, in Potsdam, occupied Germany, from  July 17 to August 2, 1945. Participants were     the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and The United States. The  were  represented  by Communist Party General Secretary Joseph Stalin, Prime Ministers Winston Churchill
                       and later, Attlee, and President Harry S. Truman

8/6/1945 The Enola Gay dropped the atomic bomb (Little Boy?) on Hiroshima.  Two other B-29s went along to record the event.    
8/9/1945 Atomic bomb destroys Nagasaki. (Fat Man).

8/15/1945 The war continued in Manchuria until the day before the signing in Tokyo Harbor.  1,669,500 Soviet troops invaded China and Manchuria.  Rape was common.


9/2/1945 There was an Unconditional surrender of Japan on USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay with General Douglas MacArthur.  During the surrender ceremonies 500 B-29s and 1,500 carrier aircraft flew overhead.  This was the end of World War II.

10/1944 General Mac Arthur landed on Leyte


1944-45 There was a famine in Tonkin China.   Americans had about 100 aircraft carriers.

2/13/1945 Hungry surrender to Soviets. 38,000 civilians were killed or died of starvation, disease, and other.  50,000 women and girls raped by the Reds


12/22/1945 General Patton was ready to start his Chestnut pulling Expedition further into Germany.  He was noted for fast and keeping the Nazis on the run.

1945 A controversial election resulted in a deep division between political parties which lead to La Violencia (1948-1957), during which more than two hundred thousand people died.

12/31/1946 Official end of WW II.
